Each whole pomegranate has a firm, leathery reddish-pink outer skin that protects numerous individual arils inside. The edible arils are juicy and range from pink to deep red, with a sweet-tart flavour that makes them delicious on their own or as an addition to a wide variety of dishes. Pomegranate is naturally rich in fibre and provides nutrients including vitamin C, potassium and other minerals.

Fresh pomegranate is a versatile fruit that can be enjoyed as a healthy snack, sprinkled over breakfast bowls, yoghurt and salads, or used to add colour and flavour to desserts, smoothies and fresh juices. The juicy arils can be removed by cutting the fruit into sections and separating them from the surrounding white membrane. The tough outer peel and most of the white membrane are not normally eaten.

Storage

Whole pomegranates can be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight for short-term storage. Refrigerating whole fruit can help extend its freshness. Once the fruit has been opened and the arils removed, store them in a clean, covered airtight container in the refrigerator and consume promptly.
